June Long Weekend- Free Jazz Festival at Darling Harbour!
By Heather | Permalink | No Comments | May 31st, 2007 | TrackbackHappy First Day of Winter!
June 11th is a Holiday for NSW and VIC. I think it is Monday the 4th for WA. What is this holiday you ask? The Queens Birthday! Pay no mind to the fact her birthday is actually in April, The Aussies have decided to celebrate it in June (Well 3 states anyway). So take note- banks etc will be closed those days- while the people of WA, NSW, and VIC run themselves mad all in the name of fun.
June 9-11 Darling Harbour is hosting a brilliant Jazz and Blues Festival for FREE!!!
Kate Caberano and True Live are a few of the highlights. If you are in Australia and live under a rock- Kate Caberano is not only Australia’s First Lady of Jazz, BUT she is also the recent winner of Dancing with the Stars!
True Live is another act that MUST be seen. A hip-hop band made up entirely of classical instruments. How can you go wrong with a cello and string base playing hip hop! Seriously, their show is energetic, intense, gorgeous and most importantly Live! Probably one of the best performances I have seen in OZ. (I’ll definately be there. I had to pay to see them last time)
There are two main stages and a few less formal venues, BBQ, REstraunts, and Aussie Wine exhibitors. How can you pass up going to see bands with names like: Waiting for Guinness, Psycho Zydeco and Guy Strazz & Passionfruit!
Free, Fun, BBQ, Aussie Wine and some seriously talented musicians all wrapped up in the unparalleled setting of Darling Harbour.
(The Long Weekend is also the official opening of the Australian Snow Season…and I hear there is snooooowwww!)
