Sydney-off the Tourist path. A visit to the Zoo and MORE!!! Go see Mosman!
If you are over visiting Taronga Zoo while visiting Sydney, don’t miss out on the lovely little village of Mosman. Believe it or not- you can turn your zoo visit either into a bush walk, a beach trip or some massively amazing boutique shopping.
From the zoo parking lot you can take a bus up into Military Road which is the main artery of the area. The shops start at a great little pub the Buena Vista and continue all the way up to Spit Junction. At Spit Junction- to complete your trip- you can catch a bus back into the CBD instead of trekking all the way back to the Ferry.

Update: Christmas Pub Crawl in Manly 16 Dec 2006
If you are in Manly this weekend- here is where you need to be! An opportunity to dress up, run around with a couple hundred other crazy folks, drink beer and raise money for charity… what more do you need! I’ll be there if anyone cares to meet up! Never mind Christmas Day, the best fun you’ll have this year is at the SANTA CLAUS PUB CRAWL !!!!
What is the “Santa Claus Pub Crawl”? Basically everybody gets dressed up in Christmas costume (e.g. Santa Claus, Mrs Claus, reindeer, elves etc) and we visit several of the fine drinking establishments in Manly spreading Christmas cheer. Apart from raising money for charity, it is a guaranteed good time and over the years has attracted the reputation as one of Manly’s premier social events. Sydney- Need Internet? Head to the Rocks!
Everyday Thousands of people visit and conduct business in the most Historic Precinct in Sydney- The Rocks. Honestly- this is one of my favorite parts of town. When I first arrived I avoided it because I thought there would be too many tourists. Man was I missing out!
What I soon discovered is that the Rocks is a visually striking place- right at the foot of the Harbour bridge (in fact you can walk up stairs to the bridge itself!). The markets are awesome, there are TONS of cool bars that mostly locals attend, and it is much closer to Circular Quay than I thought. Over all- it is a really popular spot. Now there is one more reason to fall in love with the oldest part of Sydney- FREE… yes- that is right FREE wireless Internet access!

Perth- Host to International Ultimate Frisbee Comp! 11-18 Nov 2006
Grab a blanket, esky (cooler) of beer, and get on out in Perth to watch the World Ultimate Club Championship. Be there to witness the fast-paced, aerodynamic skills of 2,000 athletes from 20 countries. Representing Australia will be 15 fiercely-competitive teams, including three teams from the host city of Perth.

Free Stuff! Christmas in Darling Harbour! 16-24 Dec 06
Darling Harbour is gorgeous at the most normal of times, however it is down right stunning during the holiday season. If you are anywhere near Sydney check out Darling Harbour and all of the free Christmas events that it is offering. Not just Christmas events- Darling Harbour has museums, Restaurants, entertainment venues, and quite honestly- just some fantastic views.

Christmas in Sydney! This Weekend! 16 DEC 2006
It is hot and steamy and yes it is Christmas time in the land down under. Personally I think OZ should rally and start all of it’s own holidays since none of the traditional ones make sense here. But Hey- it is a chance to party! December is loaded with Christmas parties and events, but one of the biggest is this weekend in The Domain. Located right in the middle of Sydney CBD, The Domain is a massive park and home to the much loved Carols in the Domain.
Thousands and thousands of people roll out the picnic blankets and settle in for a day and night of Christmas revelry. If you are in Sydney I highly sugggest you attend this event. Free to the public, it begins at noon with food booths and entertainment all day. The real entertainment though, starts when the sun goes down. Everyone lights candles and sings along as the major stars perform live. Last year we had David Hasselhoff! (You had to see it to believe it.)

Cool Stuff in Sydney- Chauvel Cinema and the Hola Mexican Film Fest.
If you are in Sydney and enjoy foreign films, or you know someone that does, I recommend you go to the “Hola Mexico Film Festival”. The Festival starts on the 21st November and will play at the Chauvel Cinema.
The Chauvel Cinema is a newly Re-opened Art House theater specializing in films that are not played elsewhere in main stream theaters. They put on film festivals like the “Hola Mexico” effort. They also have a cafe’, bar, and wireless film lounge. The Cafe’/bar offers views over Sydney’s fashionable Paddington. Enjoy their premium coffee or choose from a great variety of food and drink. They also stock a range of boutique snacks.
This place has tons of history- an interesting destination in itself- but super cool due to the film offerings.

Daily Dose: Happy Melbourne Cup Day!
The Race that stops the Nation! The Aussies are mad about their horse racing and today is the crowning glory of the Racing Season- The Melbourne Cup. Fashion, Glamour, Champers (Champagne), Stunning Horses, Lush Grounds, and the primitive pounding of the hooves all get right to the soul of the punters (folks who are out to “try their luck” or are “along for the ride”) all around Oz. It makes for a fabulously fun day and indeed many days for some people.
Victoria gets today as an extra Statewide Holiday- but the rest of us are stuck working away wishing, just for today, that we lived in Melbourne. However- all is not lost! Most work places will have a lunch and a Television to watch the GG’s run (horses) or unofficially let everyone go to lunch and not really expect them back afterwards.

Sydney and Perth! - Sculpture by the Sea
Exercise, sea, sun, and sculpture. Sculpture by the sea is a fabulous opportunity to take in the natural beauty of the eastern seaboard and get your daily dose of culture all in one. Be warned- this is an EXTREMELY popular event and the sidewalks are absolutely packed on the weekend. If you can swing it- go during the week. The walk starts (or ends) near Bondi Icebergs. Forget even trying to get in there during this event- the wait is likely to be hours. Instead- bring your cossie (swimsuit), grab a picnic to eat en-route near a favorite sculpture that you would like a bit more time to ponder, and enjoy the sunshine.
