June 24, 2004Outback JackSo...I'm not sure if this lovely slice of reality TV has made it down under, or they just pander it to us in the States, but last night was the first episode of Outback Jack. The premise is: TBS takes 12 hot and sexy urbanites and drops them in the middle of the outback with an Aussie stud who sprays them with bug spray, shows off a croc and is generally rough and rugged. The girls, accordingly, scream about the bugs, the croc, and how hot Jack is. And I watched it. I do have one redemption point, however. My male roommate turned it on...I was just suckered in. It looks bloody awful, and I hope I never have to see it. I can only imagine what they have this guy saying to play up the accent. Checked out TBS's Aussie slang page and I can honestly say I;ve never heard of "Come a gutser" or "Molly dook". Maybe I'm just not Australian enough. Posted by: Chris on June 24, 2004 12:49 PMIn reply to Chris's never hearing the term 'come a gutser' well Chris maybe you aren't old enough to recall that saying, we used it all the time when younger, falling off your bike being the main reason for using it, but it was used in all manner of falls... think it came from 'busting a gut'.. Posted by: Ngaire on June 27, 2004 02:36 AMI didn't see any of Euro 2004 so I probably won't get to see this show. Of course its totally dumb but what a lucky guy Jack is! Alright Court you started it. C'mon guys which woman do you like? My favourite is 30 year old Is this on in Australia? Posted by: shannon on June 30, 2004 10:50 AMWe can only hope not, Shannon. I haven't seen it advertised anywhere, but no doubt we'll get it at some point. Posted by: Chris on June 30, 2004 01:48 PMGday, Yea i'm a skip (Aussie/Australian)and it's not on here yet but were gonna be getting it on channel 9 later in the year. Posted by: Shontelle on July 1, 2004 06:09 PMWell I am an American sitting here in Florida, and have unfortunately watched this pathetic attempt to expose Americans to the Australian culture. Recently I have felt very humiliated to call myself an American but this just put it over the top. TBS has really pushed it with this show. The chics are ridiculous, and on behalf of all Americans I apologize for letting them step foot on Australia. Posted by: Nicole on July 8, 2004 08:37 AMWell, I am SO glad that it isn't on yet there-*Phew* ...I am heading to Brizzy for a holiday in a month & am reluctant to say where I am from! Any places I need to visit? Posted by: Shannon on July 8, 2004 10:29 AMWell I'm not humiliated to say I'm 100% American beef and damn proud of it. This is a entertainment reality show you pinheads, it isn't a documentary or supposed to be of importance - that's why millions of people watched it opening night. It doesn't show Australia in any negative light whatsoever, it only shows the ignorance of city girls to the outback which anyone would expect. It is more than that and they picked a great guy for these girls to go after. They all admit they did it for the adventure, but they really are falling for this guy. Posted by: Anna Lisa on July 11, 2004 01:31 PMWhoa there, Anna Lisa. No one's suggesting the show has any value at all so we're right with you on that one. And I've since learned that this great guy is actually an actor from Melbourne who's never roughed it in his life, according to his school mates. But hey, I think everyone realises the 'reality' show is anything but these days. Posted by: Chris on July 13, 2004 01:03 PMI think Outback Jack is a great show and i think this just comes to show how cute and attractive australian men are. Posted by: Mrs.Bloom on July 13, 2004 04:23 PMHere in California there are plenty of "plastic" people who love this show. Reality shows are anything but reality, and this one proves that. It's funny that all these "contestants" act like they mean so much to each other when they have only spent a week or so together. If they want this to be a reality show they should have the girls doing laundry and paying bills. How good do they clean a toilet? Posted by: Sarah on July 14, 2004 01:36 PMthats a good idea because in reality who the hell goes out to australia in the outback with 12 girls to get one man?! reality is cleaning, cleaning, paying bills and so much more, well but i got to admit i luve watching outback jack every tueday at 9:00 on TBS it is so great i am like so into that show, well didn't anyone watch it yesterday, i was so sad when mary had to go and that new gril mari-de or something came in ad took mary's place, it was like so sad, but i think i should stop now, oh did i mention jack cry's at eliminstions, that is so cute! Posted by: Mrs.Bloom on July 15, 2004 12:57 PMi got a question for u aussies, why do guys hate outback jack, anna lisa is like so right, it doesnt make u look bad it makes us look silly, so stop the hating and start appreciating Posted by: Mrs.Bloom on July 15, 2004 01:00 PMObviously, I am not from Australia, but do you mind if I have a say? It's like people thinking that everybody from California is from Hollywood. A few people give others a lasting impression of a place. Australia is kinda quiet in the hype department, so I am sure this show is stupid to them. Personally, I would love to see some real guys from the Outback on there, ones that are rough and tough. This guy is to "pretty" to be manly. If this was really a reality show, he'd would have tried to sleep with all of them by now. Then they could have called it OutBack Jack Gets Rack. Ha ha ha, that would be a good one. Posted by: Sarah on July 15, 2004 05:50 PMPost a comment
