Final Countdown

Coming down to the last couple of hours before I leave for the airport. Just about fully packed (besides the laptop) and I don't think I've forgotten to do/pack anything (touch wood).

My backpack is looking pretty full, but I will be able to dump some stuff off in Melbourne, and I really could have done a much better job of packing it. Not packing too many clothes since everyone in my family knows they're getting something cheap and crappy from Bali for Christmas.

Last thing to do (after packing up the laptop) is to give this room a bit of a clean, especially my desk. By the time I get back, Sean will be here and we'll be sharing this space and right now it's a bloody mess.

It's pissing down rain here at the moment, so it feels like I'm leaving at the right time. Hopefully the weather in Melbourne is better (ha!) and when I'm in Bali I just won't care.

You hope you don't forget anything! Have I a story for you... When I was leaving Oz last month my flight departed Perth at 6:10am for Sydney. Well, I figured since I had to be at the airport at no later than 4:30, i better go out and not go to bed... so out i went that night with all of my friends and had a great going away party.

well all of a sudden i realize its 3:30 in the am and I haven't fully packed. so i rush back to Sundancers and start packing my stuff.

The shuttle comes at like 4am on the dot and i'm racing down the stairs to get it. crying and saying good bye to my friends while still trying to shove everything in a suitcase.

i get on the airport shuttle and pass out. thank god! well we get to the airport and i realize i've left a suitcase back at the hostel. to make it worse, the shuttle guy is demanding $35 and i can't find my credit card. he leaves to go drop off the other bus riders and says he'll be back with security.

well at this point i'm still half drunk, half hungover, and just emotionally drained. then it comes to me, i didn't just leave a suitcase- i left the suitcase... the one with my laptop, video camera, make-up, jewelry, prescriptions, you name it anything you'd carry on.... i was totally screwed.

i called the hostel when i got to sydney and they yelled at me for not paying the shuttle guy... hey i had no cash and no credit card, what was i supposed to do? plus i was leaving the country in less than 5 hours!

so i tracked a friend down and she went to pick up the suitcase for me. she'll be home in december and then i'll get my stuff back...

moral of the story?
don't get too drunk the night before you leave and for your own sake PACK FIRST!!!
