August 15, 2003Omigod me doggit's gonna have masculinity issues!!Something to ponder over the weekend... I'm gettin' me doggit's nads scooped out on Monday. My adorable 5-month-old chocolate labrador - Madra [pronounced 'modra', Gaeilge/Irish for 'dog', you'll hear about him a LOT!] - in fact. The right thing to do of course, but the question is, will he despise me [in the short term - probably!], or do you think he's not as, ahem, attached to 'his manhood' in the way a 'hu-MAN' is... Hmmm... What should I expect - other than MORE than usual 'puppy dog' looks [from under the bucket on his head!] to guilt me out? Any doggit-owners out there with some advice? Ah sure, I'll just spoil him rotten [yeah, cos that'd be a huge change!]... Sad thing is, he's still 'pissing like a girl' too 'cos he's not socialised w enough 'other boy dogs' y'know, and I sure as hell ain't gonna get down and 'cock me leg' to show him how! Omigod he's gonna be a transexual!! Parental Ging Comments
Clearly no one cares enough about my poor wee doggit to comment or provide advice, so I'll reply to myself... [Yes, Ging, you do that! (voice in head)] Thank you, I will (other voice in head!) Nurse, nurse! (ahem)... Well, he’s at the vet as we speak, er, write, er read, er, blog, er, what the hey… And I feel like an expectant father pacing the hospital halls, except that I’m neither expecting nor pacing [nor male for that matter!]… But, my wee boy is in there now getting the deed done, or rather getting the op done to stop him from getting the deed done… Poor little bugger. He gave me the usual wake-up call this morning and thought it very weird that I was doin’ my usual routine, except with one vital factor missing - his food. ie. I let him in, he freaks out and jumps about for a bit; I have a shower, he goes and lies on my bed; I come out, he licks me to death [‘Argh, I’m all clean yer big eejit!’, ‘Stop that!’, ‘Get down’ and ‘No’ are shouted repeatedly! Followed by ‘Which part of ‘Stop that, Get Down and No’ are you ignoring?!]; I dress and get his breakfast BEFORE I have mine, but no, not today for ‘the little man in the brown 70s tracksuit’ [doggit's other pseudonym!], who’s not allowed to eat before the op. As I couldn’t even bribe him with food/treats, I felt even more evil and nasty. So evil and nasty in fact that I decided not to have breakfast, so I wouldn’t feel guilty eating in front of him! Man, dogs are such emotional blackmailers, and I’m such a sucker! So, I made me coffee, drove to the vet and left the wee boy in their capable hands... Waiting though not pacing Ging Posted by: Ging on August 18, 2003 02:48 PMJust want to let you know that the guilt-you-all-day-long puppy looks and burrowing under the covers to get atcha first thing in the AM (or 3, 4 or 5 AM...or more acurately every five freakin minutes) never stop. I've got a 10 yr old pit bull staying with me right now who has NOT been, ahem, scooped, and he guilts me like the best of em. Posted by: delara on August 19, 2003 12:19 PMHey Delara [and thx for the welcome! 'Tis about time an' all!], Well, so far so good! Picked him up y'day and had been warned he might be a bit drowsy so would probably not be up to much, not to let him exert himself too much, only give him a small amount of food, etc... I get there and the vet tells me 'actually, he's pretty keen to go home' as the anaesthetic wore off 'some time ago' and he's a bit 'excited'. Talking to the vet, he hears my voice and the next minute all we hear is yelp-central [aaaah]. She lets him out and he's hyper-arama! Um, not good for the sutures - he's meant to be all calm... Mind you, he didn't have a bucket over his head as the vet said if he was going to 'go for the sutures, he would've done it by now', so 'good boy', he's leavin' 'em alone... Hell, if he can't lick his own, ahem, genitalia now, then what's the point he's probably thinkin'! ha! So, he's ball-less, microchipped, and hasn't seemed to notice the difference! Get him home and do you think he wants a 'full' portion of dinner thankyouverymuch?! My lord, I again felt guilty only giving him a 'half serve', but y'know, just following the doctor's orders! So I gave him lots of treats and pats and he nestled up on a pillow on my lap, AND, I let him sleep in the bed all night... I know, I know, but he's meant to stay 'clean and dry' so I didn't want him out in the dirt/mud - it's been raining okay! Ahem... But, honest, tonight, he's back outside. No, really, he is. So for the next ten/twelve years I'm screwed huh! Wrapped round his little paw Ging Post a comment
