The lies that kept Vivian Alvarez hidden for years
The Australian Immigrantion Department can't catch a break - no should it with stories like that of Cornelia Rau and perhaps more shocking, but less reported, that of Vivian Alvarez. An Australian citizen who hadn't left the country since 1993, Alvarez was greatly injured in an accident. Suffering from mental illness, she could not tell officials how she got the country...although she could tell them her name. It wasn't enough to keep them from deporting her to Manila, however. She is there, waiting for an adequate care package from the Australian government. The lies that kept Vivian Alvarez hidden for years
