Dems call for gay sex travel warnings

Australians travelling overseas should be warned about countries which have laws against consensual gay sex, the Australian Democrats said.
The party's sexuality spokesman, the openly gay Brian Greig, said the case of an Australian man imprisoned in Fiji for engaging in consensual gay sex highlighted the need to change travel warnings.

A court in the city of Nadi last week convicted and jailed Australian Thomas McCosker and Fiji national Dhirendra Nadan for having sex.

The pair, who did not have lawyers at their trial, were freed on bail on Tuesday after appealing their convictions.

This seems like it would be a pretty easy thing to do, issuing warnings or at least attempting to notify people of these different standards. I understand that there can't be warnings for everything - like, for someone from the Netherlands, "marijuana is not legal in other countries" - but at the same time, it can't hurt to make people actually think about the standards on gay sex. Although, I would hope people would think about how laws vary from their home countries...
