Regions reap from wine tourism

The massive benefits to regional Australia from wine tourism have been highlighted by a new report.

The report, A Profile of Wine Visitors in Australia 2003, found 4.9 million international and domestic tourists visited a winery in 2003, collectively spending a total of $4.6 billion during their travels in Australia.

Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey said the Tourism Research Australia report showed how important the sector was to regional Australia.
