Four-star backpackers make mark

A NEW breed of "four-star backpackers" has replaced the down-at-heel drinkers and dossers familiar to previous generations of Antipodeans making the rite-of-passage journey to London. The estimated 750,000 Australians and New Zealanders living in England at any one time still know how to party hard.

But recent changes to working holiday visas mean many of them are now well-paid, highly-qualified professionals who also know how to work hard and save hard.
